NFTs and ticket purchases in Metaverse QVerse | June 2022

Qatar Airways is further developing its Metaverse and digital space. The state-owned airline will be adding NFTs and ticket purchases to its virtual world, QVerse.

The QVerse launched in April 2022 and was created by one of the most advanced 3D creation tools, Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. The airline’s digital world is a VR platform that helps passengers navigate, check-in for flights at Hamad International Airport (HIA), and take a virtual tour of the airplane’s interior cabin.

“With physical boundaries beginning to be challenged by the metaverse on an increasingly larger scale, it is exciting to embrace a technology that enables all travel enthusiasts to enjoy a unique immersive experience of our award-winning products and services,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.

Aside from NFTs, the company intends to make the QVerse accessible via other Metaverse platforms such as The Sandbox and Decentraland, as well as make it compatible with the Oculus Quest VR.

“We are currently focusing on creating our metaverse rather than investing in Decentraland or Sandbox. But we do not rule out this plan. We continue to explore how we can develop this area and strategically incorporate NFTs into QVerse,” according to Baker.

Flybondi | March 2023

“NFTickets” : Lunch of Ticket 3.0

https://aviationsourcenews.com/airline/flybondi-introduces-ultra-low-cost-cargo-operation/

The Argentinian low-cost airline Flybondi integrated Web3 into its ticketing process by issuing e-tickets as non-fungible tokens (NFT). The new integration, known as Ticket 3.0, expanded its existing partnership with NFT ticketing company TravelX, which had launched in September 2022. The NFT ticketing technology, built on the Algorand blockchain, allowed passengers to change their name, transfer, or sell their “NFTickets’’ independently.

Flybondi had stated that the NFT ticket “offered a more flexible travel experience that allowed passengers to buy in advance without defining travel plans or travelers.” In return, the airline was able to reduce customer service costs and increase revenue from trading fees.

Passengers could purchase travel tickets through the Flybondi website using fiat currency. TravelX then issued a synchronized NFT ticket alongside the regular e-ticket. Travelers created a Ticket 3.0 account to manage and store their NFTs through Flybondi. The airline integrated ticket-related rules and conditions into the NFT’s smart contract.

Flybondi’s CEO Mauricio Sana had mentioned, “With this launch, we sought to generate a positive impact in the aviation industry through innovation and the application of blockchain technology.” TravelX’s partnership with Spanish airline Air Europa and integration with Latin American crypto exchange Lemon further expanded the scope of NFT ticket adoption. Over 60 airlines worldwide were also exploring the use cases of TravelX’s NFT tickets.

“Moxy Universe, Play Beyond” | July 2022

https://news.marriott.com/news/2022/07/12/lets-play-augmented-reality-takes-off-at-moxy-hotels-with-the-moxy-universe-play-beyond-asia-pacific-campaign

Moxy® Hotels, a distinctive brand within Marriott Bonvoy’s impressive portfolio, has unveiled its captivating “Moxy Universe, Play Beyond” augmented reality adventure in the Asia Pacific region. Geared towards the spirited and young-at-heart, Moxy breaks away from traditional hospitality norms by extending its “Play On” experiences from physical spaces to the virtual realm via the Moxy Universe.

Spanning from Shanghai to Tokyo, the Moxy Universe beckons guests to embark on a personalized journey using their own avatars within 12 Moxy hotels across Asia Pacific. This immersive experience, available from July 12 to December 31, 2022, allows guests to customize avatars through mobile devices prior to their arrival. A variety of hairstyles, outfits, and accessories can be chosen. Upon arriving at the hotel and checking in at the Bar Moxy, guests access the Moxy Universe by scanning a designated QR marker, triggering a minimum of five interactive challenges across guest rooms and public areas. Successfully completing these challenges awards guests with enticing prizes.

Jennie Toh, Vice President of Brand Marketing and Brand Management Asia Pacific at Marriott International, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “Moxy has always challenged the status quo by inviting guests to live in the moment. With the campaign, we are bringing Moxy’s ‘Play On’ spirit to another dimension through fun, immersive experiences while creating greater connections with our guests.” The Moxy Universe augments the hotel experience, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to innovation and guest engagement.

Marriott Bonvoy NFT Collection | December 2021

Marriott Bonvoy, the acclaimed travel program encompassing 30 exceptional hotel brands and diverse experiences under Marriott International, has partnered with emerging digital artists TXREK, JVY, and Erick Nicolay to craft three unique Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Setting a pioneering example, Marriott Bonvoy is set to become one of the hospitality industry’s first brands to venture into NFT creation. The unveiling of these digital artworks, inspired by the program’s global “Power of Travel” campaign, took place on December 4 at Art Basel Miami Beach 2021.

Brian Povinelli, Senior Vice President of Brand, Loyalty, and Portfolio Marketing at Marriott International, expressed enthusiasm about this endeavor, stating, “We continuously seek opportunities to defy what is conventional and, with our entry in the digital goods space, we are further igniting the transformative power of travel in the virtual world, while supporting this growing community of incredibly talented artists.”

NFTs, distinctive digital collectibles traded on the blockchain, symbolize the metaverse’s “key.” The metaverse envisions 3D virtual landscapes in the digital realm. Each NFT produced for Marriott Bonvoy represents the artists’ unique perspectives on travel, showcasing how the experience of travel profoundly impacts the human spirit. This innovative initiative combines the world of hospitality with the realm of digital art, creating a harmonious blend of creative expression and transformative travel experiences.

  • MΞMORIED, created by Tarek Mustapha a.k.a. TXREK (Tarek Em), uncovers the magic envisioned from new experiences. Each destination provides its own adventure, with each experience logged into a memory that adds to the previous one as if they are connected. The digital art incorporates Marriott Bonvoy’s path connector as a pathway to the magical journeys ahead and the peace of mind in staying at any of the approximately 7,900 properties within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.
  • The Emotional Journey, designed by Jared “Jay” Richardson (JVY), was inspired by the ability of environmental travel to evoke different emotions, whether seeking inspiration escaping reality, or fulfilling one’s curiosity to explore. The digital art travels between three environments, each expressing a different point of time — from the forest where one can feel lost and the utopia where everything is perfect to the futurism which conveys a postmodern reality.
  • THE EXPERIENTIAL IN BETWEEN, developed by Erick Nicolay, explores the duality between the curated elegance of indoor travel experiences and the awe-inspiring scenic exploration of outdoor traveling experiences, with Marriott Bonvoy as the final destination. The digital art merges his appreciation for interior design and love for external nature only made possible through 3D realistic depictions.

On December 4, 2021 at 10:30 p.m., the highly anticipated unveiling of Marriott Bonvoy’s NFTs took place at the FaZe Forever Powered by MoonPay event during Art Basel, an esteemed showcase of modern and contemporary art. Attendees were drawn in by a countdown clock, leading to the NFTCODE reveal. In an exciting twist, three fortunate individuals were selected to each receive one of the NFTs along with a substantial reward of 200,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

Marriott Bonvoy’s groundbreaking “Power of Travel” campaign had previously achieved multiple industry and company milestones, such as being the first hospitality brand to engage TikTok and incorporating Pinterest’s real-time trends in an out-of-home placement. Looking ahead to the upcoming year, Marriott Bonvoy is committed to further establishing its presence within the metaverse. The brand’s intent is to continue engaging with consumers in innovative and impactful ways, showcasing a dedication to creativity and evolution in the hospitality landscape.

The NoMo SoHo | May 2022

Nomo Soho Hotel Collection : NFTstays

https://www.nomosoho.com/nft/

Crypto owners had a new option to merge their digital assets with real-world experiences: vacationing. The NoMo SoHo hotel in New York City became the first hotel in the United States to offer NFT reservations. From Monday, May 16 2020, the hotel started combining curated NFTs with stays in some of its guest rooms, along with added perks. Initially, only 300 such NFTs were released, starting at .41 ETH, or $836 at the time of launch.

Sharon Raz, CEO of Sapir Corp, which owned the NoMo, stated that this innovative approach should have been implemented earlier. Booking via the NFT package was similar to using a promo code, making the experience relatively seamless for the buyer. Using a special code, guests were able to reserve three-to-six-night stays, depending on the NFT they purchased, with a range of dates to choose from.

The NoMo, the tallest building in SoHo, offered beautiful views of New York through the 10-foot floor-to-ceiling windows found in its rooms. When booking with an NFT, guests also received perks such as late check-out, complimentary breakfast, a welcome amenity, and more. Raz emphasized that it was almost like a membership club, with a small, exclusive group of people having access to these offerings.

Raz hoped that the NFTs would help the NoMo attract a new type of clientele. She believed that the crypto community would now view NoMo as a better option when considering options in New York.

Previously, Sapir Corp sold a $22.5 million oceanfront condo using cryptocurrency, making the building the first development in Miami to facilitate such a transaction. Now, Sapir was banking on people wanting that sort of connection with hotels as well. Depending on how the NoMo’s first NFT drop panned out, more packages could be in the future, with expanded offerings or opportunities. For now, though, the focus was on these 300 NFTs — available just in time for the summer travel season.

TravelX and Air Europa collaborated to introduce a groundbreaking series of NFT (non-fungible token) flight tickets named “NFTickets.” These unique tickets offered access to a business class seat on an Air Europa flight bound for Miami on November 29, 2022. Created in partnership with renowned artists, these NFTickets also provided exclusive privileges and pre-events, leading to a premier art show in Miami Beach in December. The NFTickets were released in sets of 10 through the auction platform travelxchange.com every 14 days, with the first made available through a live auction on April 11. Functioning like traditional NFTs, these digital tokens were securely recorded on the blockchain and could be exchanged for corresponding flight tickets. The initiative, titled “The Art as the Destination,” blended art, technology, and travel, creating a fusion of experiences. The partnership showcased Air Europa’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement within the travel industry.

Furthermore, Air Europa planned to expand its NFTicket concept by introducing a platform that allowed passengers to book flights using NFTs. These NFTickets offered the unique feature of unlimited name changes up to 72 hours before departure, potentially allowing for reselling and block purchases. This approach signified Air Europa’s innovative take on integrating blockchain technology and NFTs into the airline industry, exploring the evolving potential of these technologies in enhancing customer experiences and airline operations. While the full implementation details were yet to be finalized, the initiative highlighted the ongoing exploration of blockchain’s utility in the travel sector.

Circa Resort & Casino | March 2022

Vegas Vickie NFT

https://www.circalasvegas.com/vegas-vickie-nft/

Circa Resort & Casino embarked on an innovative journey into the realm of NFTs, making history as the first Las Vegas casino to introduce an NFT art collection. While the notion was unprecedented in the context of Las Vegas casinos, NFTs had already gained traction in mainstream culture over the years.

Derek Stevens, Circa’s CEO, shared his excitement about embracing the NFT world, underscoring the casino’s dedication to harmonizing tradition with innovation. He underscored Circa’s early adoption of crypto and blockchain technology, having embraced Bitcoin nearly a decade ago. The impetus for creating an NFT collection arose from an overture by artist Borbay concerning the legendary Vegas Vickie neon sign.

The impending Circa NFT collection, inaugurated with a homage to Vegas Vickie, captured the essence of the iconic 20-foot blonde cowgirl neon sign that had graced Bob Stupak’s Glitter Gulch Casino. Artist Jason “Borbay” Borbet masterfully crafted a digital rendition of Vegas Vickie, drawing inspiration from the original masterpiece that now adorns Circa’s rooftop lounge, Legacy Club.

The collaboration symbolized a community-driven initiative, aimed at enlightening and empowering the NFT space. As Circa continued to unveil specifics about the NFT art collection, NFT enthusiasts and patrons were encouraged to stay abreast of developments via Circa Las Vegas. Notably, enthusiasts seeking to commemorate this iconic figure could acquire merchandise such as coffee mugs featuring Vegas Vickie, available at the Circa gift shop.

‘Virtual Vacations’

https://ngagen.com/makemytrip

Online travel company MakeMyTrip has entered the world of NFTs with the launch of limited-edition non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The idea is for travelers to own digital collectibles of their favorite destinations, the company said. The first of the digital artworks being rolled out are landscapes of Goa, Ladakh, Orissa, Himachal, Kashmir, Kerala, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, and Andamans. The artworks have been designed with Advanced AI Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) wherein the AI tool is uploaded with several images and trained to produce realistic, creative, and unique images, said the company in a statement.

The artworks have been conceptualized and designed by AI Bots, an online community of digital artists, using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), a tool that requires the creator to upload several images and train AI algorithms in order to generate a realistic depiction of the final artwork. “The NFTs are a confluence of new-age technology with the world of travel as it captures the beauty of some of the exotic locations of India. We are offering travel enthusiasts a never before chance to be owners of this beauty in the digital domain,” said Sunil Suresh the group’s chief marketing officer.

MakeMyTrip has launched 25 tokens for each artwork — these are priced from Rs14,999 onwards, and are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Minted on the Polygon blockchain, the NFTs can be accessed through MakeMyTrip’s website and bought on ngageN.

Praphul Chandra, founder, KoineArth, said, “With the launch of their NFTs, Indians around the world can digitally own the beauty of India, make it part of their personal legacy and even gift it to their loved ones. The artwork of NFTs is a great example of how brands-with-a-purpose are working with digital artists to create art that captures their spirit.”

The proceeds from the sale will support projects that promote sustainable tourism in India.

Australian airline Qantas has ventured into the world of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) by announcing plans to release its own collection of digital art collectibles in mid-2022. . Ca’ di Dio | August 2021

https://luxebeatmag.com/venices-only-5-star-hotel-offers-innovative-pre-opening-stay-via-auction/

The Ca’ di Dio, a five-star hotel located in Venice, officially opened its doors on August 27, 2021. However, in the lead-up to this opening, its parent company VRetreats organized an auction that lasted until August 16, 2021. During this auction, a unique opportunity was presented: a night’s stay at the hotel where a guest could enjoy exclusive use of the entire property. Notably, the auction involved bidding on a non-fungible token (NFT), a type of token that cannot be replicated.

NFTs are comparable to digital deeds, representing ownership of digital cx yxc yassets. These tokens gained significant popularity in the given year and even inspired a song on Saturday Night Live. Christie’s, a renowned auction house, facilitated the sale of $93.2 million worth of digital art in the first half of that year, relying on NFTs to verify authenticity.

Angelo La Riccia, the commercial director of VRetreats and VOIhotels, explained that utilizing NFTs for the auction was advantageous not only for marketing but also for distribution.

The hotel brand adopted a distinctive approach by conducting an auction on the Opensea.io platform, where interested individuals could bid on the NFT. The highest bidder was granted the opportunity to stay in one of the hotel’s rooms on August 19, accommodating two or three guests. This exclusive experience included a rooftop dinner, with the added benefit of no other guests on the property.

The intention behind this unique auction was to target a specific group of travelers who had an interest in NFTs. La Riccia believed that those who were knowledgeable about cryptocurrency might not have been familiar with the hotel brand. The hope was that the winner of the auction, upon having an enjoyable stay, would share their experience within their community.

Ca’ di Dio, the hotel’s name meaning “house of God,” represented a blend of both the modern and the historical. Although it was Venice’s latest hotel, it was a reconstruction of a palazzo that was initially conceived in 1272. The hotel boasted 57 suites and nine guest rooms, organized around three courtyards. Its lobby was adorned with chandeliers from the nearby LP Glass Factory in Murano.

The establishment of Ca’ di Dio marked the fourth addition to the VRetreats brand. This brand was an offshoot of VOIhotels, a subsidiary of Alpitour, Italy’s largest tour operator and travel conglomerate.

Although NFTs were rooted in blockchain technology and were commonly purchased using cryptocurrency, the hotel’s NFT auction permitted bids from standard payment methods such as credit cards. This inclusion of traditional payment methods highlighted a forward-looking approach to technology adoption and innovation.
